Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy . . . that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

A pastor was on a hospital visit when a nurse told him about a particular patient who was in need of some encouragement. "She is very deformed and her body has been twisted since childhood. She really needs someone to try to cheer her up." The pastor agreed to visit her; and upon entering the room, he told her he had something for her—a happy, uplifting, encouraging book that had helped many depressed people. The woman examined the book and responded, "I really ought not to take this book, sir." The pastor replied, "Why not? Have you already read it?" She said, "I have not only read it; I wrote it!"
1 Peter 1:3-9
It is amazing to think that this woman, who was crippled from birth, knew and understood happiness so well that she was able to write a book on the subject. No matter what we know, however, discouragement can enter our hearts. We must choose to have definitive joy because of whom we follow.
If you find that you are living a joyless life, remember that you have a Savior who loves you, died for you, and is awaiting your arrival in heaven. That should surely fill your heart with inexpressible joy and gladness.
To be filled with God is to be filled with joy.
