The brilliant scientist Sir Isaac Newton said that he could take his telescope and look millions and millions of miles into space. Then he added, "But when I lay it aside, go into my room, shut the door, and get down on my knees in earnest prayer, I see more of heaven and feel closer to the Lord than if I were assisted by all the telescopes on earth." *
John 15:1-8
Trying to live life in our own strength makes no more sense than trying to see God through a telescope. Still, there are times when we struggle unnecessarily through life, forgetful of the power that lies in communicating with the Creator.
In John 15:5, the Lord tells us, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." It is a fact: We cannot live this Christian life in our own strength. That fact does not stop us from trying, to be sure. It is an ongoing battle to die to self; but we must relinquish control and depend solely upon Christ, for it is only through Him that all things are possible.
Prayer is not so much an act as it is an attitude--an attitude of dependency, dependency upon God.
