At the death camp of Auschwitz, a plaque remains on one of the walls bearing this quote from Adolf Hitler: "I freed Germany from the stupid and degrading fallacies of conscience and morality . . . we will train young people before whom the world will tremble."
John 8:31-36
Hitler claimed to set people free to enjoy a world of moral relativism, and he rejected the absolute truth of God. But Hitler's freedom was horrific, and his truth was a lie.
The basis for all truth in human literature, knowledge, and conduct is found in the Word of God. When we abide in His Word, we discover the Truth about God, about life, about death, about holiness, about moral standards, about salvation, about heaven and hell, about right and wrong. The Word of God is the revealed and unchanging Truth of God, and when we study the Bible, we come to know the facts, the Truth.
Jesus came to give us the Truth, and He himself is the embodiment of truth. Discovering that is the most liberating reality in human experience. As John 8:36 says, "If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
The truth is always exciting. Speak it, then. Life is dull without it.
