President
Franklin Roosevelt moved America toward a "New Deal"—a way to provide
economic and social security for citizens. Forty years later, President
Ronald Reagan declared that government could not meet the needs
Roosevelt envisioned. Twenty years later, President George W. Bush
created a "faith-based initiative," asking religious groups to do what
they do best: provide help for those in need.

The first
faith-based initiative took place 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem. The
early church was doing things that left the whole city in a state of
awe. Acts 6 describes how the church had a food distribution program
for widows who had no other means of support. And when problems
developed with that program, the apostles quickly put a remedy in place
to solve the problem. When Christians come together, they have the
ability to change lives and change the world.

Are you
exercising your faith for the betterment of your neighborhood,
community, city, nation, and world? No one knows better than Christians
what a life-saving gift of grace can do to turn a life around.

The
reason that Christianity is the best friend of government is because
Christianity is the only religion that changes the heart.
